Understated elegance on a grand scale
For the Danube Waltz, danced in the Grand Gallery of Schönbrunn Palace, elegant evening gowns were designed for the ladies and modern tuxedos for the gentlemen. The color gradient in the women’s dresses, ranging from lilac to mother-of-pearl, is inspired by the Baroque ceiling fresco in the palace’s Grand Gallery. For choreographer Christian Tichy, it was important that the dresses be as light as possible so that every dance movement would be reflected in the dress. This lightness was achieved through the use of multiple layers of silk satin organza, which allows for great volume and airiness. The dresses’ sparkle comes from embroidery featuring numerous movable sequins. The intricate embroidery was developed specifically for these dresses in collaboration with the Vorarlberg-based embroidery firm Hämmerle & Vogel. For the men, a long-tailored three-piece tuxedo was designed.
